HOLLYWOOD BASIC CRAFTS CONCLUDE WEEK 1 OF NEGOTIATIONS

Teamsters Local 399

The Hollywood Basic Crafts, which include Teamsters Local 399, IBEW Local 40, LiUNA! Local 724, OPCMIA Local 755 and UA Local 78 have concluded their first week of scheduled bargaining with the AMPTP.

This week was reserved for opening statements and the exchange of proposals between the AMPTP and the Hollywood Basic Crafts. Teamsters Local 399 exchanged proposals both for the ‘Black Book’ Agreement, as well as our Location Manager Agreement. This is the first time Teamsters Local 399 is bargaining these two agreements simultaneously alongside the Hollywood Basic Crafts Locals.

Outside of exchanging proposals for this round of bargaining, a common theme for discussions this week centered around the commitment from all of the Unions present for the fight to increase and expand our Film and Television Tax Incentive here in the state of California.

“It is our members, and their stories, that impact this important middle class job creation program. An incentive program that ultimately the employers also benefit from. We are committed to a continued partnership with these employers to increase the work here in California, but increasing work here in the state will not be done by making any concessions on behalf of our members throughout these negotiations. Their hard work and dedication to this industry cannot be understated. Our proposals shared this week reflect the marching orders from our members and center around the long due respect and parity our members are owed for their skill, expertise and contribution to this industry.” - Lindsay Dougherty, Teamsters Local 399 Principal Officer and Chairperson of the Hollywood Basic Crafts.

Joining Teamsters Local 399 this week for negotiations were members from our member-led steering committees both in-person at the AMPTP or via Zoom. The inclusion of rank-and-file members from the Teamsters at the bargaining table is not only an important and long-standing practice of Local 399, but it is also a resolution outlined in the Teamsters International Constitution.

Also joining Teamsters Local 399 this week were Motion Picture Division Representatives from the Eastern Region (Brian Salomone & Jimmy Whalen), Southern Region (Vinnie Thrift), Central Region (Jim Parrinello) and Western Region Representative, and Local 399 Vice President, Joshua Staheli. Teamsters were also joined by our new Motion Picture Division Assistant Director, Billy Benner. All representatives have been able to shed light on the way business is done for Motion Picture Teamsters across the Country.

Talks are scheduled to continue next week for Teamsters Local 399 and the Hollywood Basic Crafts. Collectively, the Hollywood Basic Crafts represent about 7,600 members of the Motion Picture Industry.
